Maine Gay Wedding Photography
As my clients, friends and family know, I have been so excited as the new laws legalizing Gay Marriage in Maine have finally being enacted. For me, it's not about the financial windfall that is rumored to be waiting for the wedding industry in Maine. For me it is about civil rights. It is a hard won right.
I have been getting goosebumps as this issue has played out in our courts and ballot boxes. As a kid, I had several adult role models and friends of the family who were and are openly gay. As such, I was fortunate to have been raised to respect and love people for who they are as people. I have never felt ambivalent about advocating for the rights of gay, lesbian and transgendered people. We are who we are and we love how we love.
So it was with a massive excitement that I drove an hour down to Portland's City Hall last night to be a part of this incredible historic event. I was so happy to see how thrilled everyone was, both the couples preparing to get married and the fabulous supportive crowd singing and cheering as each newly married coupled emerged from City Hall. Even the mayor was out on the steps congratulating the couples.
I would like to thank all of the couples who came out last night to get their licenses and who got married. Thank you for sharing your day with me, the entire press corps and with the state of Maine!
